Who Is The Doctor / Pure Mystery

"Who Is The Doctor" is a cover version of Delia Derbyshire's "Doctor Who" theme with narration by Jon Pertwee with spoken lyrics by Pertwee, backed with a whimsical song about an ageing magician who can't find an audience, sung by Jon Pertwee. The A-side featured lyrics and a re-arrangement of Ron Grainer's theme music by David MacIver, while the B-side was written by David MacIver & Rupert Hine (who'd been working together since the mid 1960's as a duo called Rupert & David). Both songs were produced & arranged by Rupert Hine, recorded in 1972 and released in this format in the UK on 10 November 1972

Michael Des Barres - Single 1974 (PURPLE RECORDS #123)

"Leon"/"New Moon Tonight"

Michael's first solo single was released by Purple Records in October 1974. It featured the songs "Leon" and "New Moon Tonight". Both songs were written by Philip Goodhand-Tait. They were produced and arranged by Del Newman. "Leon" was later recorded by Roger Daltrey of The Who, who included the song on his solo album One of the Boys (1977).

"After Silverhead broke up and I was completely out of my head on drugs, they cleaned me up, and they put me in the studio to record a single on my own, and it was a song called Leon. And it came out on Purple Records, which was a subsidiary, I think, of EMI, and I can't remember it. I couldn't even hum it to you."

Both sides of this disc are written by Dave Curtiss (Original Member of Rondabout ,who also released material as CURTISS MULDOON) and John Cann. John was also with ATOMIC ROOSTER and ANDROMEDA before signing to PURPLE and released material as BULLET & HARD STUFF. I'm told by a very reliable source that the band line-up

on this single was John Cann, John Gustafson, Paul Hammond, Dave Curtiss and Alex Muldoon

Bullet - Single 1971 (Purple Records)

Hard Stuff was an English hard rock and early heavy metal group, which included John Du Cann and Paul Hammond formerly of Atomic Rooster. Also in the lineup were vocalist Al Shaw, and John Gustafson, formerly of Quatermass.
Du Cann and Hammond had left Atomic Rooster due to disagreements with Vincent Crane over the increasingly bluesy, soulful direction he wanted to take that band in. Consequently, compared with Atomic Rooster's more progressive leanings, Hard Stuff were based more heavily on aggressive guitar.
Originally, Du Cann, Hammond and Shaw had formed a band provisionally entitled Daemon, with the intention of eventually touring and recording under the name Atomic Rooster. Gustafson was invited to join them on that basis, but after finding out that Crane retained the rights to the Atomic Rooster name, the quartet decided to continue anyway, but under the name Bullett instead.

Bullet, the band released one single, "Hobo", the first on Deep Purple's Purple Records label. Following that release, however, they were prompted to change their name yet again, this time to Hard Stuff, due to a legal threat from a US band also called Bullet.
